The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (originally titled The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker 2) is a upcoming 2018 Japanese-American 3D computer animated fantasy comedy-drama adventure film based on the 2007 Nintendo DS video game of the same name and the sequel to the 2016 upcoming film adaptation The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. It is being produced by Illumination Entertainment RIP for Universal Pictures. The film is scheduled to be released on April 6, 2018. It will be the second Illumination Entertainment film to be a sequel, first being Despicable Me 2, which released on July 3, 2013.


The film's story follows that of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and focuses on Link as he journeys to save his friend Tetra from the story's antagonist, Bellum, with the help of Captain Linebeck and his ship, the S.S. Linebeck.



Chris Meledandri, CEO of Illumination Entertainment, tweeted in April 2013 that they are working on the sequel idea. On July 28, 2013, Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment announced that they were developing a sequel to The Wind Waker with a release date for April 6, 2018, with Chris Renaud and Henry Selick returning to direct it. On September 9, 2013, it was announced that the sequel would be titled The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass.

On February 27, 2014, it was announced that Debi Derryberry and Miley Cyrus will reprise their roles in the sequel.


On September 17, 2013, Universal announced The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks and The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures to follow Phantom Hourglass, respectively.
